2013 FARMERS' MARKET STARTS MAY 18th and continues through the end of October
The Wayne County Farmers' Market is a weekly marketplace for farmers and producers in Wayne County and its boardering counties in Northeast PA to sell their produce and goods. The selection of vegetables changes with the seasons, but there is always a wide variety of locally produced household items, baked goods and decorative items.
In the Spring look for radishes, onions, crisp lettuce, salad greens, dark leafy greens, bedding plants, trees, shrubs and more. The Summer holds a bountiful harvest of berries, broccoli, zucchini, summer squash, peas, beans, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, sweet corn, cantaloupe, watermelon, a variety of herbs and tomatoes in many colors, shapes and sizes. If you're into canning for Winter just ask one of our farmers about a large order.
When the leaves start to color in the Fall we'll have plenty of apples, pears, root vegetables, leeks, winter squash, cabbage, turnips, brussel sprouts, and pumpkins.
Our goal is to help the residents of Wayne County eat locally and participate in a local economy. There's no better peace of mind about our food than to know the farmer who grew it. The practice of eating locally is an easy, positive step toward a sustainable future and a cleaner, safer environment. By participating in your local economy, your dollars stay in the community and go directly to the farmer or producer. In addition, many of our vendors accept WIC Farmers' Market checks and SNAP benefits.
Our market brings together farmers and consumers to share ideas and talk about what's on their mind. If you have questions about your garden or flower bed - feel free to ask us.
Farmers' Markets have traditionally brought people together in a fun, family-oriented atmosphere. There's always something going on and plenty of sights and sounds to fill your senses. We have weekly cooking demonstrations, which incorporate how to prepare dishes from seasonal vegetables.
We hope you enjoy our market and make it a regular part of your weekly shopping for some of the best our region has to offer.
